Welcome !
This is the development web site for the AMIS project. It contains a bug tracker, roadmap, source code, etc. End-users are advised to go to our site at daisy.org for practical information about downloading and using AMIS.
What is AMIS ?
AMIS is talking book playback software that plays DAISY 2.02 and ANSI/ Z39.86-2005 ("DAISY 3") books. Read the overview, feature list, and system requirements.
AMIS is free and Open-Source software, released under ( LGPL). This project incorporates some GPL third-party software, so if you are interested in using all or part of AMIS in a closed-source environment, please contact us first to find out what you must do to respect the licensing terms of these third-party components.
AMIS is actively developed and maintained by the DAISY Consortium.
The main contact for the project is Marisa DeMeglio, who is the project coordinator and lead developer.
What is DAISY?
DAISY (Digital Accessible Information SYstem) is an open standard for accessible electronic multimedia.
The DAISY Consortium is a worldwide body of like-minded organizations collaborating to develop the standards and to implement strategies for the production, exchange and use of next-generation Digital Talking Books (DTB) aimed at people who are blind, visually-impaired, or otherwise print-disabled (e.g. dyslexic).
The DAISY Consortium is a non-profit organization.
Current Status
AMIS 3.0 was released May 5, 2009. The next release is expected to be AMIS 3.1, which will be a maintenance release. Of course, we are always thinking about the longer-term future of AMIS (see the future ideas list).
